We have provided photography workshops at Bradgate Park since 2017. Bradgate Park has approximately 600 fallow and red deer. And the park offers through its unique landscapes, not only photo opportunities with the deer and its action during the rutting season. There is the River Lin with wildfowl and many other bird species around this area. Deer may also be seen crossing the river occasionally. Furthermore, away from the river, there are some areas of the park, reminding visitors of the landscapes in the Peak District.

After a discussion with the Bradgate Park Trust management, we decided to offer a photography workshop for teenagers now also at this fantastic venue. The Deer Rut Photography for Teenagers workshop at Bradgate Park will be, like most of our children photography workshop, for up to 3 teenagers
(and one guardian each). The scheduled duration will be longer than any of our other teenager photography experiences; 6.5 hours and there will be an early start. This is simply to provide our younger customers, just like adult participants on the existing photography workshop at Bradgate Park, with the possibility to get great photo opportunities when the park is not too busy, and both deer species (fallow and red deer) is more likeley to be active around the river.

Your guide will have been in the park on the previous day/s and will know, where deer is likely to be, and she will keep an eye out for any interesting photo opportunities for the workshop participants. She will be also available throughout the event to support the teenagers
(and their guardians) with setting up the cameras and answer any photography questions, they may have.

The Deer Rut Photography for Teenagers workshop comes of course with the option to have a 30-minutes online photography tuition session prior to the workshop day. This can be used to learn more about an digital SLR or bridge camera's functionality, talk about aspects and questions, our younger customers may have due to them doing GCSE or A-level Photography or just to go through, what to expect and bring.

As mentioned above, we keep our groups at the Deer Rut Photography for Teenagers workshop to only up to 3 teenagers
(plus one guardian each). The price for both (the teenager and his/her guardian) is £174.50. This includes a contribution to the Bradgate Park Trust, guidance through the park, support with setting up the cameras and questions about any other photography aspect throughout the workshop plus the option to have a 30-minutes online tuition session prior to the photography workshop. Not included in the price is any catering or parking fees. There are two cafés, where we can take breaks. However, as these are generally not next to where we will be with the deer in the park, we recommend, bringing a flask with a hot drink and maybe also some small snacks.

The Deer Rut Photography for Teenagers workshop at Bradgate Park, involves walking longer distances in a hilly environment when tracking
(not stalking) the deer (part of the park is called ‘Little Matlock’ based on the similarities to the Peak District). Saying this, we will stay longer with some red or fallow deer herds for participants to observe and photograph the deer and its action; and of course we will take breaks and sit down for a while.

The Deer Rut Photography for Teenagers workshop starts at 7:30am and finishing generally at 2:00pm. However, this depends on available photography opportunities
(we definitely won’t urge participants to finish when stags or bucks are rutting, deer crossing the River Lin or anything else interesting happens, and equally customers have decided in the past to leave earlier as they had already lots of great photos.)

We have so far scheduled only one photography workshop for tenagers at Bradgate Park for 2025:
11 October 2025 (Saturday) - spaces available
Further dates will be added if we get sufficient demand for the Deer Rut Photography workshop

Covered by the photography workshop fee is that participants will become members of Big Cat & Nature Photography for one year and through this will have a range of benefits
(having access to discounts when booking future events as well as to Hints & Tips articles in our Members’ Zone plus to our Members meeting)
