Seal Photography in Norfolk

Join one of our small groups of photographers on a
Seal Photography in Norfolk Workshop

Grey seals are known to use the beaches around Horsey Gap (between Waxham and Winterton) for the annual pupping and moulting seasons. We will take our customers to the dunes and respectively to the beaches (the latter only during the moulting season) around Horsey Gap during these natural events. There will be plenty of photography opportunities, from seal pups feeding and interacting with their mums during the pupping season to young seals exploring their surroundings, seals bouncing across sandbanks (during low tides) or beaches and to the occasional arguments between seals plus a lot of resting.

During the time when grey seals stay on the beaches and/or sandbanks while they regenerate their furs, we should be able to get down to the beaches and be able to photograph the seals in the surge of waves at the water’s edge. However, as the safety of our customers as well as of the seals is most important, we will assess the possibilities on the day
(also tide dependent) and will obviously provide a health and safety briefing prior to setting off into the seals’ natural habitat.

A health and safety briefing will also be provided when we stay in public viewing areas and on designated paths as our experience is that seal pups and also adult seals could be anywhere in the dunes
(which provides great photography opportunities) and even on the Coastal Path.

Like on all our photography experiences in natural habitat areas the Seal Photography in Norfolk workshop will include advice on how to approach wildlife photography in a safe and non-intrusive way. In this context, we do recommend bringing a long zoom lens of up to 400mm or even a longer range. Participants will get more details on equipment considerations and what else to bring with their booking confirmation.

On our Seal Photography in Norfolk workshop participants will benefit from being in a small group of only up to 3 participants
(plus myself), having access to 1-to-1 support throughout the event and the option to have a 30-minutes online tuition session prior to the photography workshop. Our photography workshops are open to all experience levels, meaning the tuition and onsite support will be tailored around everyone’s individual needs.

The Seal Photography workshops in Norfolk starts at 8:30am and finish at 1:30pm (5 hours). For 2025 we have scheduled the following dates for the Seal Photography in Norfolk workshop:
12 December 2025 (Friday) / pupping season - spaces available

This price includes a contribution of 20% to the Friends of Horsey Seals (who look after the seals around Horsey Gap and beyond), support on any photography aspect throughout the workshop plus the option to have a 30-minutes online tuition session prior to the photography workshop. Not included in the price is any catering or parking fees. We recommend, bringing a flask with a hot drink and any snacks, you may wish to have during the workshop duration.

Another benefit, which applies to all our photography experiences is that participants will become members of Big Cat & Nature Photography for one year.
