Check Out Our Primates Photography Workshop
17th June 2024
As many of my customers and followers know, Colchester Zoo has a great collection of endangered, critically endangered and other exotic wildlife species. This includes also more than 20 different primates species.

Cherry-crowned Mangabey
I have had the privilege to provide photography workshops around the primates species at Colchester Zoo for more than a year now. Although, we won’t be able to guarantee that all the primates species will be out and doing something funny for you on our photography workshop days, be assured there will be plenty of action and hence good photo opportunities.

Pygmy Marmoset
There appears to be always a playful time with the baboons, and the little Pygmy marmosets provide photographic challenges as they seem not to sit still for more than a split second. Our photography workshop will include the lemurs along the boardwalk, which include ring-tailed and crowned lemurs.

Crowned Lemur
Some species are more likely to be in their outdoor enclosures when it is warmer, meaning there is a good chance to capture them in action during our coming Primates Photography workshops in July and September. These species include the spider monkeys and the lively squirrel monkeys.

Squirrel Monkey
There will be plenty of photo opportunities on this 7-hours long photography workshop at Colchester Zoo. We will be working from the public paths and viewing areas, which means there are challenges in respect of photographing the apes, monkeys and lemurs through glass or fences. However, this is what our photography workshops are about; helping our customers not only to learn more about their cameras and the best settings for taking photos of wildlife, but also to learn how to work with challenges like fences and glass when visiting a zoo, or how to capture an animal in trees or bushes in its natural habitat.

Barbary Macaque
The Primates Photography workshop includes a 30-minutes online session before the actual event day, on which participants can get more information about technical aspects of photography (and their camera's functionalities) or how best to approach wildlife photography at the zoo and/or in natural habitat areas. And of course, there will be support for the participants on hand throughout the photography workshop itself.

Pileated Gibbon
Our Primates Photography workshop is like all of our photography workshops at Colchester Zoo about learning different aspects of wildlife photography and/or enhancing skills while taking photos of the many different animals at the zoo (in this case of the Primates) in a relaxed environment. Participants will also benefit from our tour around the zoo including some of the primates species having their food at the time of our visit to their enclosure.

Buffy-headed Capuchins
So, why not join us to capture a checky squirrel monkey, a pileated gibbon hanging out, an orangutan walking on straps and/or gelada baboon or spider monkey babies/toddlers growing up (these two species have currently a little one each) ?
