Photo Days at Rutland Falconry and Owl Centre

The Rutland Falconry and Owl Centre is a bird of prey centre with a difference. It is located in the middle of woodlands near Rutland Water. The location is ideal to practice wildlife photography with the birds in a natural setting. In addition to this, there are also Amur, Persian and African leopards plus a serval cat.

The part of the centre, where the leopards are, is called Rutland Wildlife Sanctuary and it is generally not open to the public. We are however very privileged that the management agreed to let us take our customers here and be able to spend part of the photo day with the leopards. We offer our Photo Day and our Customised Photography course (course on a 1-to-1 basis) at this very special venue.

For 2017 & 2018 we have agreed the following dates with Rutland Falconry & Owl Centre for the Photo Day with Birds of Prey and Leopards:

15 October 2017 (Sunday) - availability > 3 spaces
4 March 2018 (Sunday) - availability > 3 spaces
12 May 2018 (Saturday) - availability > 3 spaces

Shade - Persian Leopard

We limit the number of participants on our Photo Days at the Rutland Falconry & Owl Centre to 10 participants. The maximum number of participants is applied to ensure that everyone can get one-to-one advice on photography aspects while we go around, and everyone will get a good position and with this good photo opportunities.

The price for our photo days is £110 per person
(and will remain so in 2018). This includes, besides the tuition/advice and the guided tour, also a welcome drink (tea/coffee). As there are no catering facilities at this venue, please bring your own lunch.

Photo Days will start at 10:00am and will finish at 4:00pm. We usually start our Photo Days around the birds of prey at the centre from 10:30am onwards (after everyone has arrived and we have advised you about safety rules for your visit to the Rutland Falconry & Owl Centre).

Below is a sample itinerary for the Photo Day:
9:45am Arrival, sign-in and health and Safety briefing (with tea or coffee)
10:30am Taking photos of owls, hawks, falcon, and other bird of prey species
1:00pm Lunch
2:00pm Taking photos of the leopards and serval cat
4:00pm Finish
This itinerary is only a sample as changes may occur, based for example on requirements of participants and circumstances around the animals at the bird of prey centre or weather conditions.

You can book by completing the form at the end of this page and, provided it is not indicated above that no spaces or only a small number of spaces are available for the photo day date of your choice, proceed to the online shop via the payment link to pay either the deposit or the full fee from there (depending on when you book / the full fee is required when booking 4 weeks or less prior to the course date). For more details about the booking process, please check our Terms and Conditions.

If you are not sure about what dates would suit you best, or you would like to get the photography course or photo day for a friend or family member, you can also buy a gift voucher and agree the course venue and date at a later stage.
